I greet you from my home in Tulsa this month. So strange not to have my calendar full of meetings with churches in the USA and for preaching salvation, healing, and miracle crusades around the globe for the first time in 52 years.
I quoted this in a previous letter but felt it needs to be repeated; Thomas Payne said, “These are the times that try men’s souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot, in this crisis, shrink from the service of his country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman.”
The apostle Paul said some interesting things that would apply to our trying times and this crisis;
Of course, I am no Apostle Paul, but He is my great example of how an apostle operates. That is the office to which God has called me and so many pastors and churches as well as Christians in many nations call me their Apostle and look to me for that ministry!
I am grieved that we were forced to postpone our huge open-air salvation miracle crusade in the Islamic nation of Pakistan the first part of May. It is one thing to have churches in the USA postpone or cancel our scheduled meetings with them as they are, after all, Christians.
If they die without hearing me or their pastor, they are going to Heaven. But those 100,000 people we were expecting in the crusade are not saved, have not accepted Jesus. When they die, without Jesus, they will go to Hell for eternity! Jesus said, “He that believeth not shall be damned!” Dammed, to where? Hell. For how long? For Ever, for eternity! It is enough to make Heaven weep.
This crisis has not come as a surprise to Heaven, it did not come unaware to the Master of the Universes. He has provided in his Word long ago the answers, the solutions to all of this. You know, several decades ago we were at the beach. I picked up some suntan lotion to apply on us. For some reason, I happened to look at the directions on the back of the bottle. It said to be most effective you must apply 20 minutes before getting in the sun. The Lord spoke to me that faith and the Word were the same way. To be most effective we need to apply long before the crisis comes.
In a couple of weeks, Reneé and I are going to get in our truck and head west. California, Oregon, and Washington seem to be the hardest and tightest states concerning churches opening and letting people be free as our constitution guarantees.
So as Paul said to Barnabas, I said to Reneé, “let’s strike out in faith and visit our partner churches and strengthen them; let us go again and visit our brethren in every city where we have preached the word of the Lord, and see how they do. And he went through Syria and Cilicia, confirming the churches.” Other translations say, “strengthening and encouraging the churches”. “And as they went through the cities, they delivered them the decree for to keep, that were ordained of the apostles and elders which were at Jerusalem, and so were the churches established in the faith, and increased in number daily.” Most translations say, “and so were the churches strengthened” Acts 16:4,5
“For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift, to the end that ye may be established; that is, that is that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me.” Romans 1:11.
Since these trying times that trouble men’s souls have come upon us and Hell has tried to destroy the church, numerous pastors have called me for council and advice as what to do. I have helped them both in open, in-person services, and online services.
I commend all pastors in this fight. After all, no one has done what today’s pastors are doing before. No one has pastored a last days church before. No Pastor has had to fight the politicians, the mainstream media, and the public before to simply open and preach in their own church. The church which they founded, built, cared for, defended the flock from wolves, married, baptized, and buried the congregation. The church that they counseled, loved, instructed, shed tears, sweat, and blood. The church that they, God and the people paid for. Those that are leaders live in glass houses and are crucified by the unqualified. People come with all the answers and have no clue what the question is. Just because you know the one driving the nails into your hands is not qualified to do so, it does not hurt any less.
Reneé and I have a heart for all Pastors. For those just starting out and especially for those continuing. Not all that start, continue. People accuse them of being afraid of the virus, but I do not know any pastor that is guilty of that. The fear and great opposition come from without.
I heard four goofy women on “The Talk” last week say that the country is divided in half, those, like them, who are caring and compassionate and wear masks, gloves etc. who stay in, don’t hug or touch. Then the other half, that do not care and want to kill everybody, you know, that is us, the church. So, the Pastors are facing terrible opposition from those judgers of the church, including in some states and towns, the Governor, Mayor, and police departments. Threatened with total shutdown, fines and even jail. Many states are opening, and many pastors have taken brave steps and defied authorities, some never shutdown at all. But again, red states and blue states are different and have varying degrees of guidelines or absolute laws, legal or not.
Reneé and I are simply going to strike out by faith and head to the west coast. We are not looking for an offering but would love to have the opportunity to visit and strengthen the churches, our partners, our friends. We want to see pastors, wash their feet, see them smile, take them to coffee or lunch…
So, we are free, for the first time, have time on our hands and can just get in our truck and head out.
We are believing for hotels to be open for us and restaurants as well, as we go.
