A small metal stove can heat a room and cook a meal. For families affected by war in Ukraine, JMICF helped provide that kind of practical care through missionary Rufus Whynot.

Rufus's ministry is based in Romania, but his work has also taken him across the border to serve people in Ukraine. In his conversation with Terry and Reneé, he described supporting local churches as they helped displaced families, widows, and children.

Warmth with a practical purpose

Reneé recalled helping purchase firewood. Rufus added another detail: some of that support also bought locally made metal stoves. They could be used for both heating and cooking.

Because the stoves were made nearby, they could be delivered without the weight and complications of transporting them across multiple borders. It was a practical decision shaped by the people doing the work on the ground.

Rufus also described buying available supplies inside the country when that made better use of the funds. Knowing what could be found locally helped him respond to needs with less transport and expense.

People behind the supplies

The interview described more than deliveries. A pastor Rufus worked with was helping women whose husbands had died in the war, along with their children. Local churches provided a connection between the resources and the families who needed them.

Terry and Reneé recalled JMICF's involvement in supplies and vehicle support as well. Each gift served the same purpose: helping trusted people care for others.

A partnership that reaches families

Rufus also spoke about his work with children in Romania, including camps and Christmas gifts. Across those different settings, practical provision and Christian ministry remained closely connected.

This is how JMICF's support can travel further than a single purchase. A donor helps provide resources. A ministry partner knows the community. A local church reaches a family. And something as ordinary as a stove becomes a tangible expression of care.
