MY POCKETS GROW MONEY

The Spirit of the Lord has been leading me to share some lifestyles of faith that He has taught me all these years, and how to make them work, and how I have done my best to operate the laws and principles of faith. So, this month I will share this with you… “My pockets grow money.”

HAGGAI 1:2–12
Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, this people say, the time is not come, the time that the LORD’s house should be built. Then came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet, saying, is it time for you, O ye, to dwell in your ceiled houses, and this house lie waste?
Now therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways. Ye have sown much and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes. Thus, saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.
Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the LORD. Ye looked for much, and, lo, it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith the LORD of hosts. Because of mine house that is waste, and ye run every man unto his own house. Therefore, the heaven over you is stayed from dew, and the earth is stayed from her fruit. And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which the ground bringeth forth, and upon men, and upon cattle, and upon all the labour of the hands.

ECCLESIASTES 7:14
“In the day of prosperity be joyful, but in the day of adversity consider.” In other words, in the day of prosperity, enjoy it, be blessed, have fun, BUT if the day of adversity comes, something is not right, so you need to do some considering.

Two powerful scripture settings concerning finances and money. Now we know there are more scriptures in the Bible concerning finance, money, abundance, increase, wealth, poverty, lack, giving, receiving, etc., than just about anything else. So, the norm for believers is to be blessed, to be prosperous. But these two scriptures give us a great Heavenly secret… if something is wrong, if money is tight, if things are not working, first step, then we should consider our ways. We should consider! God tells us to take care of His house, of the things of God first, and His blessings, His prosperity will come.

He says if we get this out of order, we put our money in bags with holes, and that when we get some money, He blows on it and it’s gone. Over the decades people have come to me and said, “Brother Terry, I’m working two jobs, but it’s like my pockets have holes in them. I make money, but it blows away.” I tell them it’s time to do some considering. Are you putting God and His works first?

One of my spiritual fathers, Oral Roberts, taught us the three keys to receiving from God: first, realize that God is your source. All good things come from Him. Secondly, we must give first. Third, we must expect a miracle, a harvest, and expect it from unexpected sources. That sounds so simple, but it is so very profound. I have lived by these principles since I was 20. What a wonderful lifestyle. My pockets grow money!

After reading the two above scriptures so many decades ago, I started saying, “My pockets do not have holes in them. In fact, my pockets grow money. I’m never without money. I’m never broke!” But it was not just an empty confession. I had to put action to my faith and keep my money and life in proper order, to take care of the things of God first.

My kids and my grandkids have been able to observe this ongoing miracle all their lives, and realize that Dad’s pockets grow money, Papa’s pockets grow money. But my oldest son, Lynn, has probably seen and experienced it firsthand more than the others because he has traveled with me the most, both in the United States and overseas on mission trips around the globe. He has also been the business administrator off and on over the years, and he saw the checkbooks and the bills.

Many times, over the decades, he has been with me overseas in third-world, impoverished countries, and I put him in charge of the money, including keeping it on him. Every night I would empty my pockets in the hotel room and give the money to him. The next day we would be out and about, and at a meal or while purchasing things, I would pull money out of my pockets and pay for something or give to bless someone. Lynn would say, “Dad, where did you get that money? I know when we went to bed last night you didn’t have any—you gave it all to me!” I would always say, “My pockets grow money—you know that.” Then the next day that was repeated. So, he would tell the siblings, and in later years the grandkids, Dad’s/Papa’s pockets grow money. Now they confess it over their own pockets. But again, it is not just the confession—faith demands action.

When Renee and I married 11 years ago and she became privy to the money, checkbooks, and bills, she would come to me from time to time and present a bill or a need. “Terry, we need $12,000.00,” or $20,000.00, or whatever. My answer has always been, “God has lots of money and He shares with us. My pockets grow money.”
